Painter. He was a student of Jakab Warschag and later Jakab Marastoni in Pest. He served in the independence war of 1848-49. After that he continued his studies in Vienna, where he studied mainly Dutch painting. Initially, he painted historical and genre pieces, and later popular still-lifes of mainly fruits in scrupulous details, in the manner of the Dutch masters. In 1856 he displayed his picture entitled 'Tempest', in 1861 the 'Harvest Festival', and in 1864 the 'Kinizsi in the Battle of Kenyérmező' in the Art Club of Pest. He visited the town of Szolnok on a number of occasions, and this is where his more widely known piece, the 'Market Scene' was made. The Budapest Art Gallery held his commemorative exhibition in 1922. Some of his paintings are kept in the Hungarian National Gallery and his self-portrait can be found in the Historical Picture Gallery.
