SZAMOSI SOÓS, Vilmos
(1885, Kolozsvár - 1972, Szentendre)

He began acquiring the art of sculpture under the guidance of the sculptor, János Fadrusz, then he was a student of Lajos Mátrai in the School of Applied Arts from 1903, and a student of Béla Radnai at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1908. He would live in Szentendre from 1920 until his death, and he also worked as an art teacher for quite a while. He made medals and participated in competitions for memorials. He modelled with great skills and excellent characterising ability the prominent personages of his contemporary society. He plastered an enlarged portrait of Mátyás Ráby for the town of Szentendre, but the bust was eventually not erected in bronze. He was awarded a silver prize in 1931 at the exhibition of the National Salon. In 1962 he donated a plaster-cast self-portrait to the Ferenczy Museum of Szentendre. Some of his works are kept in the Hungarian National Gallery.
