STRAUB, Philipp Jakob
(1706, Württenberg - 1774, Graz)
Austrian sculptor who, together with his brother Joseph Straub, run a workshop in Graz. He was south German in origin, he studied in Munich. He worked also in Hungary, in Transdanubia, for the Szapáry and Széchényi families. The Straub workshop introduced a new sculptural trend in Transdanubia which differed from the classicist style of Donner and his followers.
