SIMAY, Imre
(1874, Budapest - 1955, Érd)



Sculptor, painter and graphic artist. First he went to Vienna, then to Munich where he was a pupil of H. Zügel. His statues showing mostly monkeys are best characterized with a tendency of summarizing in plains. "Mother and Son", a composition in bronze was awarded the Gold Prize of the Art Gallery in 1907. In the years after 1930, he was engaged in painting only. He was a teacher of sculpture and modelling at the School of Applied Arts. Some his works ("Twins", "Lion Couple", and "Happiness of the Family",etc.) are in the possession of the Hungarian National Gallery.
