RÉVÉSZ, Imre
(1859, Sátoraljaújhely - 1944, Nagyszőlős)



Genre painter and illustrator. He learnt in Vienna and Paris. In 1904, he was invited to teach at the Art School, Budapest. From 1920 onwards, he was the leader of the Kecskemét art school. He retired in 1932, but he stayed in Kecskemét until 1939. His major works: "In the Country Tavern" (1882), "Escaping" (1894), "Petőfi among his People" (1884), "Petőfi in the Camp"and "Panem!" (1899) on unemployed peasants. In his late period, he painted humorous genre pictures imitating folk style.
