REMSEY, Jenő
(1885, Nagykőrös - 1980, Gödöllő)



Painter, graphic artist, writer, editor. Between 1905 and 1909 he worked as a clerk and studied art. His first works shows the influence of Rippl-Rónai. From 1909 he spent five years at the artist colony at Gödöllő and studied with Aladár Körösfői-Kriesch and depicted biblical themes and subjects of the Hungarian myth (Betrothal of Mary, Christ Driving the Traders from the Temple, Attila myth). This period is characterized by monumental panels, stained glass windows and tapestries.

In 1911 and 1914 he made study tours to Munich. Between 1924 and 1935 he was editor in art journals. In 1938 the city of Győr commissioned a large-size tapestry which was exhibited at the New York World Exhibition. He published several volumes of poems and plays between 1921 and 1940.

His collected works were exhibited in Paris in 1957. Other exhibitions: Budapest (1935, 1964, 1976), Gyula (1974), Szekszárd (1978), Nagykőrös (1979).
