LIEDER, Frigyes
(1786, Potsdam - 1859, Pest)

He was a pupil of David in the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. Later he painted portraits of several Hungarian aristrocrats in Vienna. He lived in Hungary from 1820 until his death. He painted portraits in Nagyszombat in 1830. The "Portrait of Count Károly Zichy" comes from the year 1841. He worked mostly in Pest and painted portraits of major figures of the time ("Palatine Joseph", "Count Antal Cziráky", "László Orczy", "Jakab Marastoni", etc.). His characteristically graceful portraits and water colours made him a popular portrait painter of his age.
