Water engineer and painter. Lányi, primarily a water engineer, was a remarkable painter of his age. He was one of Miklós Barabás' friends. He also drew illustrations. His self-portrait in a Jacobian cap (1840) is in the possession of the Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest.
