He learnt to paint at the Academy in Vienna. He stayed in Italy in 1824-25. As a teacher of the Vienna Academy, he played a significant role in painting on religious subject matters. He painted altar pieces and frescoes for churches in Vienna. His altars decorate the cathedral in Kalocsa and the parish church in Józsefváros, Budapest.
