DUNAISZKY, Lőrinc
(1784, Libetbánya - 1833, Pest)



Sculptor, father of László Dunaiszky. He was the pupil of Fischer and Füger in Vienna. He settled in Pest in 1809, and he became the most sought-after Hungarian sculptor of his period. He made numerous ecclesiastical sculptures, funeral monuments and architectural decoration. His works entitled Funeral Monument, and Ecce Homo are in the Hungarian National Gallery, the wooden portrait of General József Alvinczi can be found in the Historical Picture Gallery. He was commissioned by Károly Gömöri to execute six reliefs of pharmaceutical subjects for the decoration of the Holy Ghost Pharmacy at Pest in 1813. They are now in their original forms in the Semmelweis Museum of medical History in Budapest.
