CIMBAL, Johan Ignaz
(1722, Wagstadt - 1795, Wien)



Austrian painter who worked also in Hungary, mainly in the western part Transdanubia. Many of his works are known in his native Silesia, and he executed significant altarpieces in Vienna. In Hungary he worked for Ignác Koller, Bishop of Veszprém, who commissioned frescoes for his palaces in Veszprém and Sümeg, as well as ceiling and wall paintings and altarpieces for the village churches. Two sons of Cimbal became painter, too.
