Wedding-guests are arriving in high spirits: the young man who is standing in the background is raising a jug to his lips and waving his hat with expansive movements. A man with a hat is dancing in the middle of the picture, snapping his fingers to the tempo of the music and the gypsy begins to play ... There is embarressment in the middle of the picture: the bride is appearing with a face which promises sweetness, and is welcomed by the will-be father-in-law. There are pigeons on the roof of the thatched house. Clouds in the sky, trees in leaf, pinnacled roofs and veil-like dust in the air make the scene poetic.
A triangle leads the eye to the background of the picture; the trio of the bride, bridegroom and father-in-law are surrounded by the triangle of the male dancer, musicians and the man with the jug; the third triangle appears above them : two roofs with a church tower giving perspective to the whole.
