ALCONIERE, Tivadar
(1797, Mattersburg - 1865, Vienna)

Painter (his family name was Cohn Hermann). He began studying art in Vienna in 1812. He catholicised in the thirties and made a pilgrimage to Rome, where he spent 13 years pursuing art studies. He returned to Hungary via Vienna in the forties and painted in the towns of Székesfehérvár, Pápa and Pest until the fifties when he moved back to Vienna. He then dedicated his life entirely to the pursuit of his religious fantasies and died as a cleric in a monastery. He painted mainly portraits (e.g. Count László Károlyi on horseback), and he drew humorous compositions as well (The Harp-player: The Baptised Saracen Child etc.).
